Season 2006 – 2007 - 2008
Our fishing programs take place in different rivers and lakes near the
lodge, both wading and on board of our comfortable boats.
There is also the possibility to go exploring with our guides, a great
adventure discovering new still unexplored and virgin places of the region.
Our experienced guides accommodate to the physical conditions and requirements
of each passenger, as well as the programs which are adjusted to the weather
conditions.
All the excursions are subject to strict safety regulations, so our passengers
will be certain that our programs are carefully prepared to avoid unnecessary
risks. All our guides are interconnected with state of the arts communications
equipment, so that the communications center at the Lodge shall have control
at all times of the group’s location.
The fishing operations are programmed and take place by common agreement
with the passengers, considering departure and arrival times to the Lodge,
type of fishing, places they would like to visit, rest, snacks, among
others. It is no problem for us to accommodate ourselves to your preferences.
If you do not desire to do onboard fishing, we have different places and
options to develop very good wade fishing.
Typical Fishing Program
6:30 AM Wakeup call to begin your experience in Patagonia.
7:00 Hours Buffet breakfast in the dining room.
7:30 Hours Prepare your personal fishing equipment.
8:30 We go onboard to start with the excursion of the
day.
9:00 to12 Hours On-board or wade fishing.
12 Hours Lunch and a well earned rest.
14 to 18 Hours On-board or wade fishing.
19.30 Hours Drinks at the Lodge.Bar
20.30 Hours A pleasant dinner sharing fishing stories
21.30 Hours After dinner you can see the pictures of
the day or feel free to enjoy and do whatever you please.
In connection with the fishing
River and lake Vargas, Jaramillo river and others nearby the Lodge
have one of the most plentiful populations of fish, resident brown trout,
rainbow, steelhead, Sea Run Browns, and king salmons
Fishing calendar:
Brown Trout October/April, Sizes 1- 8 Kilos.
Rainbow Trout October/December, Sizes 2- 6 Kilos.
King Salmon November/April, Sizes 2- and over 20 Kilos..
Steelhead March/April, Sizes 2- 7 Kilos.
Sea-Run Brown March/April, Sizes 2- 8 Kilos
The rivers and lakes where fishing takes place are Vargas
river and lake, Jaramillo river, Santo Domingo, Carrera and El Encuentro
rivers, among others.-
We shall also make excursions in seek of the great rainbow to some secret
lagoons of restricted access, which are visited only by our guests. In
all of them it is possible to capture during the whole season, great brown
trout that will impress you; as from mid-November it will be possible
to begin fishing huge salmons. The king salmon is among the most commonly
species fished.
The beginning of their upstream race strongly depends on the weather conditions
of the season, where the first rainfalls in October mark a clear signal
of the beginning of the salmon season.
From the month of November till mid-February this fishing is not easy,
as it takes place in River and Lake Vargas. These salmons are very fresh,
vigorous and in big quantities, sinking is less abundant than in March,
the experience of each fisher is important, and just one of these sinkings
is a great experience, very difficult to forget.
These salmons shall be found during that whole period, awaiting the rains of the end of February, which raise the water level of Jaramillo river, and as from that moment the upstream race finally takes place only in that water course, which makes this fishing an incredible and unique experience at all levels.
The flies to be used must be the traditional salmon flies;
we recommend those where white and blue tones are predominant. However,
due to the huge size of these salmons, surely the most successful fly
shall be provided to you by your guide.
For salmons we recommend simple handle rods with a weight between 8 to
9/10, nevertheless we suggest that you bring equipment of weight 5 to
capture Farios trout with delicate dry flies.
Return fishing policy. Hooks without burr are compulsory, as well as the
strict policy of fishing without death or with return; they shall all
be returned to their habitat once they have been photographed.
